Overview

A 3D endless runner project built around a simple, responsive gameplay loop. The player automatically moves forward while navigating obstacles through lateral movement and jumping. The project focuses on core gameplay programming, collision handling, player feedback, camera behaviour, and a complete playable game flow.

Responsibilities

• Implemented the core player movement and endless runner gameplay loop. • Developed lateral movement, jumping, obstacle interaction, and death behaviour. • Set up collision logic and gameplay state transitions. • Implemented the third-person camera behaviour. • Created the playable menu-to-game flow. • Assembled and adjusted the level environment for gameplay readability.

Systems implemented

• Automatic Forward Movement • Lateral Player Movement • Jump System • Obstacle Collision Detection • Player Death / Failure State • Gameplay Reset Flow • Third-Person Camera System • Main Menu & Game Flow • Environment and Obstacle Setup

Technical challenges

Maintaining responsive player controls while the character continuously moves forward was one of the main challenges. Collision detection also needed to remain reliable at gameplay speed, while obstacles had to stay readable enough for the player to react in time. Camera positioning and movement required additional tuning to keep the character and upcoming obstacles clearly visible.

Solutions

Player movement, jumping, collision handling, and failure logic were separated into clear gameplay responsibilities to make the system easier to tune and debug. Collision areas and movement values were iteratively adjusted for more consistent obstacle interactions. Camera positioning and obstacle spacing were also refined to improve gameplay readability and player reaction time.

Lessons learned

This project strengthened my understanding of building a complete gameplay loop from individual systems. I gained practical experience with player movement, collision handling, camera behaviour, gameplay states, and debugging interactions between multiple gameplay components. It also reinforced the importance of responsive controls and clear visual feedback even in mechanically simple games.
